A mountain biker who crashed in Annadel State Park Monday afternoon had to be rescued by a CHP helicopter.

The 39-year-old man was on Spring Creek Trail when he fell off his bike, Officer James Andrews said.

“A lot of them, they get up on illegal trails,” Andrews said. “But (officers) did say he was allowed to be on the trail he was on.”

A Redcom dispatcher said it appeared the biker had broken a leg.

The CHP’s helicopter was called just before 4 p.m. to Annadel, where a hoist rescue was deemed necessary due to “the isolated location and rugged terrain,” a news release said.

The helicopter hovered 75 feet above the man and lowered the harness to awaiting Cal Fire firefighters, who then strapped the cyclist in to be hoisted up.

He was taken to the hospital by ambulance, Andrews said.
