Overwhelmed in fires, 911 dispatchers rewrite script for next inferno

Sonoma County emergency dispatchers were unprepared and understaffed for October’s unprecedented disaster. They have drawn up new plans to serve 911 callers when the next big wildfire erupts, and their work could affect dispatch operations across the U.S.
