Statewide county jail deaths for the past three years, as compiled by the state Department
of Justice:
2006: 134 deaths in county jails
2005: 155 deaths in county jails
2004: 116 deaths in county jails
COMPARING COUNTIES
Jail deaths in 2005 with counties similar in population to Sonoma:
Monterey County: 3 deaths (one accidental, two natural causes)
Solano County: 1 death (suicide)
Sonoma County: 2 deaths (natural causes)
Stanislaus County: 8 deaths (one accidental, five natural causes, two suicides)
