Man found dead in surf

<p>Authorities are investigating the death of a 47-year-old Arkansas man found dead in the surf near Goat Rock on the Sonoma Coast early Wednesday.</p><p>The man was wearing street clothes and did not appear to have been the victim of a violent crime, said Jeremy Stinson, supervising ranger at Sonoma Coast State Beach.</p><p>Suicide "is one possibility that we're looking at," Stinson said.</p><p>The man's name was withheld pending notification of his family.</p><p>His body was discovered just after 8 a.m. in the surf off Blind Beach, just south of Goat Rock, by a visitor out for a morning walk, Stinson said.</p><p>His car was later found parked on Goat Rock Road, he said.</p><p>A state lifeguard dispatched to the scene pulled the man from the water onto the beach and determined that he could not be resuscitated, Stinson said.</p><p>There were no obvious signs of trauma, he said.</p><p>The Sonoma County Coroner's Office has taken over the investigation, Stinson said.</p><p>-- Mary Callahan</p>
