A candlelight vigil tonight will serve as prelude to a Saturday celebration of the life of a former Mendocino County woman who was killed last month after being abducted from a friend’s home near the University of Nevada, Reno.

AP PhotoBrianna Denison, 19, was a sophomore studying psychology at Santa Barbara City College in California.
She was killed by an unknown assailant while visiting Reno, the home of her mother and brother, Jan 20 while on break from school.
Her grandparents, Bob and Barbara Zunino, live in Mendocino, where Brianna briefly attended junior high and high school. Mendocino was also the coastal site of many summer vacations during her childhood.
Police say Denison was kidnapped while sleeping on a couch at a friend’s rented home near the University of Nevada, Reno. Denison’s body was found a week ago in a field near a light industrial and office area in south Reno.
The attack is believed to have been sexually motivated and the work of a serial rapist.
A memorial of ribbons, flowers, blue balloons, stuffed animals, cards, notes and candles continues to grow where her body was found on Sandhill Drive in southwest Reno.
That site is the location of tonight’s candlelight vigil, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
