SOLVANG -- Levi Leipheimer rode to a dominating Stage 5 individual time trial win and extended his race lead Friday in the Amgen Tour of California.

Leipheimer (Astana) of Santa Rosa, who began the day with a 13-second margin over of Fabian Cancellara (CSC) of Switzerland, completed the 15-mile course in 30 minutes and 46 seconds and was the only cyclist to eclipse 31 minutes.

David Milar (Slipstream-Chipotle) of Great Britain, who began the day in fourth place overall, finished second in 31:15 and moved into second place, trailing Leipheimer by 49 seconds.

Christian Vande Velde (Slipstream-Chipotle) of Lemont, Ill., was third in the stage, finishing in 31:31.

The seven-stage, eight-day event continues Saturday with the 105-mile Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita road race.
