A 67-year-old Willits man was killed early Friday evening when his Ford Ranger pickup went off Highway 162 and rolled down a rocky hillside, officials said.

The driver, James D. Sorenson, was traveling east on Highway 162, about 1.5 miles east of Highway 101, when the accident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. CHP officials said he was wearing his seat belt.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof, blocking the lower-elevation westbound lane. Officials said he died of his injuries at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation and no other information was available Saturday morning.
