A Middletown woman who lost control of her car and caused a crash on Highway 29 in Lake County was identified Tuesday as the driver who died in the collision, the CHP said.
Carmen Deanna Barnett, 36, was driving south on the rural highway near Hidden Valley at about 6:25 p.m. Monday when her car drifted onto the shoulder and hit a curb, the CHP said.
She tried to regain control but went too far and overcorrected, causing her 1999 Dodge Intrepid to spin.
The car spun into opposing traffic and the path of driver Kathleen Edwards, 49, of Nevada City. Edwards couldn’t avoid a collision and the front of her 2000 Isuzu Trooper crashed into the driver’s side of Barnett’s car.
Barnett died in the crash.
Edwards and passenger Judy Farmer, 67, of Clearlake Oaks were taken to Redbud Community Hospital. Edwards was treated for minor injuries and released.
Farmer had multiple injuries including a broken pelvis, wrist and forearm, the CHP said. She later was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
