Bennett Ridge homes without water

About 150 households in the Bennett Ridge water district have been without water since Friday because the neighborhood water tank is contaminated.

No drinking, bathing or cooking with the tap water residents were told, forcing many into hotels and others to gyms or the homes of relatives and friends for showers.

“People are very agitated and upset,” said Robin Levander, who lives on Old Bennett Ridge Road with her husband and two children.

“You can’t cook. Your basic household functions are on hold. You appreciate how important water is,” she said.

The problem apparently occurred Thursday when repairs were being made to a holding tank. An epoxy used to stop leaks apparently hadn’t dried when the tank was refilled.

The concern is that the material got into the water and spread to nearby homes, Levander said.

About 150 homes on Old Bennett Ridge, Bardy and Rollo roads are included in the water ban.

A tanker truck with fresh water is available for customers to fill containers.

On Wednesday, the tank on Bardy Road was being emptied, district board member Jim Keller said.

The board is hoping that once emptied, the tank will be repaired and refilled. He estimated residents could be back in water by Friday at the earliest.

A meeting on the issue will be at 7 tonight at the Bennett Valley firehouse.
