Authorities have identified the man found dead off Petaluma Hill Road on Wednesday as Preston Odell Thurman of Rohnert Park.
A PG&E crew found the body of Thurman, 55, down an embankment and in a creek bed a short distance off the roadway between Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Rob Giordano said Thursday that the case remained under investigation but that detectives had not found evidence of foul play.
An autopsy was scheduled for Friday, he said.
“It’s possible it’s just a fall,” Giordano said. “We will be looking at autopsy results tomorrow to help confirm that.”
Thurman’s body was found shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said. It did not appear he had been in the creek bed for long, they said.
