U.S. Coast Guard officers rescued two men Saturday night in Tomales Bay after their boat broke down.
The men had gone out in the small pleasure craft for the day and when they didn’t return Saturday night, family members called to report they were overdue, said Matthew McCullough, coast guard boatswains mate 3.
A search boat went out to look and found the men on White Gulch Beach, McCullough said.
The men said the boat, which belonged to a family member, had broken down and they drifted in the bay. Eventually they were able to get to land, where they beached the boat and built a campfire, thinking they might have to spend the night.
The coast guard crew towed the boat across the bay to Lawson’s Landing, where it is typically moored. And the men were able to get home.
