Santa Rosa’s Atlantic Pacific Bank will change its name because of a trademark dispute over the Atlantic Pacific name, the bank said Thursday.

The independent commercial bank, which opened in 2006, said it was approached by another company about a conflict with its trademark.

The bank didn’t identify the other company. “We have determined that engaging in a potentially long and expensive legal battle regarding the trademark rights surrounding the bank’s name is currently not in the best interests of shareholders,” said Atlantic Pacific CEO Charles Hall.

The bank has hired a brand consulting firm to help come up with a new name.

The bank also delayed its annual meeting to June 4 because of the trademark issue. Shareholders will be asked to approve a new name at a later date, the bank said.

Atlantic Pacific reported $42.8 million in assets as of Dec. 31, with $30.3 million in loans and $16.9 million in deposits.

The bank is located on Westwind Boulevard near Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport.
