1,200-acre Jepson Winery for sale

April 23, 2008

Jepson Winery north of Hopland is back on the market, less than three years after it was acquired by an investment group with plans to develop homes on the 1,200-acre property.

The winery, which is also licensed as a vodka and brandy distillery, hit the market last week for $10.5 million.

Investment group Dbon Mendocino LLC acquired the sprawling property along the Russian River in 2005 with plans to develop high-end estates.

But the soft housing market and tight building restrictions in Mendocino County made that tough to execute, said Tony Ford, one of the agents listing the property.

"In the current residential market conditions, the buyers decided to pursue other interests," Ford said.

The winery, which has 120 acres of vineyards and 100 more acres of plantable land, was founded in 1985 by banker Robert Jepson.
