The city of Cloverdale has terminated the lease of a skydiving company at the city airport following an injury to one of its instructors and safety complaints from an ex-employee.
Skydive Cloverdale was required by its lease to use only FAA-certified parachute riggers, which it did not do, according to the city.
The city suspended the company’s license in April, asking the company to provide information on its employees and operations.
The suspension came after an injury to a customer and two injuries to an instructor in the past year.
The revocation took effect Wednesday.
The FAA is also investigating the company over concerns about parachute packing, said Rick Baker, an FAA investigator in Oakland.
Federal regulations say main parachutes must be packed by the user or by a rigger who is under the supervision of an FAA-certified packer, and that reserve chutes be packed by an FAA-certified packer, Baker said.
A co-owner of the company, Dee Ann Jones, said the city’s decision will be appealed.
