The buzz was audible when British pop-music genius Simon Fuller, the hugely wealthy creator of the Spice Girls and “American Idol,” said his vows over the weekend in a Napa Valley wedding that’s said to have cost millions of dollars.
It wasn’t just anybody who phoned the Napa County Sheriff to complain that a helicopter carrying English paparazzi was flying too low over the Friday evening wedding at the Bond Winery on Oakville Grade.
A security officer for San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom asked the sheriff’s office to have the helicopter climb higher. But Sheriff’s Capt. John Robertson said the pilot of the rented copter was good about staying at least 1,000 feet above the ground, the legal minimum.
I wasn’t there, you might have guessed, when Fuller, 48, married 30-year-old interior designer Natalie Swanston. The guest list did include Spice Girls Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell, model Claudia Schiffer and singers Annie Lennox and Leona Lewis.
Napa County deputies held their ground against some prying British journalists at the rehearsal dinner for 125 at The Reserve at Meadowood. “They’re a little pushier than ours,” Capt. Robertson said.
Fuller, who was recently named by Billboard magazine as “the most successful British music manager of all time,” put his guests up at Meadowood and Auberge du Soleil.
He sure picked a nice weekend for it, didn’t he?
