A small earthquake struck a rural area near the Napa-Sonoma county line shortly after 6 a.m. Friday.

Preliminary reports put the 2.8 Magnitude quake at 3 miles south-southwest of Calistoga, between Petrified Forest and St. Helena roads in Sonoma County, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Calistoga police and fire personnel said they did not feel the 6:08 a.m. shaker and received no reports of damage.

The earthquake was about 8 miles northeast of Santa Rosa, the USGS said.
