A Sonoma teenager was arrested late Thursday in connection with the stabbing of another teen in what authorities said was a gang-related fight.

Simon Calvillo, 19, was apprehended at his residence about 11:07 p.m. by deputies from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department gang unit and the Sonoma Police Department.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, with a gang enhancement, and held at the Sonoma County Jail on $150,000 bail.

The victim, an 18-year-old El Verano resident who was not identified, suffered three serious but not life-threatening stab wounds to his arm and ankle, Sheriff’s Sgt. Dave Thompson said. He was also struck with a bat.

Family members brought the victim to Sonoma Valley Hospital about 9 p.m. Thursday. The victim told investigators that he and some friends were surrounded by seven or eight males wielding knives, sticks and bats in the 300 block of Verano Ave.

The suspects chased the victim and assaulted him, then fled. Thompson said the incident “appeared to have been gang-motivated.”

An investigation is continuing.
