An abalone diver who died off the Sonoma County coast this weekend was a 54-year-old San Bruno man.
The Sonoma County Coroner's Office on Monday identified him as Craig Alan Belluomini. Belluomini died early Saturday afternoon while diving near Stillwater Cove.
Witnesses said he may have become entangled in kelp and was seen struggling in the water. Nearby divers swam to him, freed him and pulled him to shore. They gave him CPR until emergency personnel arrived and took over the effort.
Belluomini was declared dead at 12:40 p.m.
His death was the fifth fatality related to abalone diving on the North Coast this year.
