A Santa Rosa man remains hospitalized with multiple wounds after allegedly being stabbed by his roommate, who was armed with pruning shears, police reported Monday.

Officers arrested a man who identified himself as Antonio Francisco Amancio, 30, of Santa Rosa on suspicion of attempted homicide, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.

The roommate, Camerino Martinez-Gutierrez, 19, went to a Santa Rosa hospital at about 2 a.m. Monday with wounds to his head, face, neck and torso. He told hospital staff he’d been attacked by his roommate at their home on Aston Avenue, police said.

Officers who went to the Aston Avenue duplex found Amancio locked in the garage. He appeared to be drunk and did not cooperate with officers, Banayat said.

It took several officers to subdue and arrest him. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the effort.

Officers found pruning shears at the home.

Amancio was checked by medical staff for any injuries from the struggle, was cleared and then booked into Sonoma County Jail. As well as attempted homicide he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

His identity was being verified through a fingerprint check.
