A replica of the distinctive black wall of the Vietnam War Memorial is in place at Santa Rosa’s Memorial Park today as volunteers worked to finish installing the moving tribute to the 58,000 who died in the war.

There are 56 names of Sonoma County veterans commemorated on the 250-foot-long wall, which was trucked to Santa Rosa Memorial Park and constructed by volunteers today.

Opening ceremonies will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday for a four-day display. Closing ceremonies will be at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Sonoma County United Veterans Council and Santa Rosa Memorial Park are sponsoring the display, a powerful reminder of the mostly young men and women who died serving their country.

The wall will be available for viewing from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. However, the gates will remain open all night for visitation.
