Priorities:
BUDGET
Problem: City's miscalculation of sales and property tax revenues. "They continue to spend money we don't have."
Solution: Develop more aggressive program to keep and attract businesses to bolster revenues; push for SMART's development, implement a temporary 10 percent reduction in higher-waged employee salaries.
PUBLIC SAFETY
Problem: Because of budget woes, the council might redirect Measure O funds from the current police, fire and anti-gang programs they finance.
Solution: Honor Measure O and include other police and fire operations in citywide budget reductions to further protect Measure O funds from being redirected.
ENVIRONMENT
Problem: Reducing the city's carbon footprint.
Solution: Push for the SMART train, expand fleet of alternate-fuel city vehicles, install solar panels on city buildings and create special financing district to encourage homeowners to install solar devices.
