Priorities:
BUDGET
Problem: Budget gap expected to reach a $10 million.
Solution: Temporary salary reductions or freezes to save jobs and services while reducing costs, perhaps cutting salaries based on a sliding scale.
ECONOMY
Problem: "We are bleeding money out of our area."
Solution: Develop plan to entice emerging companies like video game designers to locate and bring their high-paying jobs to Santa Rosa. "The traditional thing, manufacturing jobs, isn't working."
PUBLIC SAFETY
Problem: The police department has gotten away from neighborhood-oriented policing.
Solution: Greater outreach to and familiarity with neighborhoods by police and expansion of Neighborhood Watch programs would provide a first line of defense to prevent crime from gaining a foothold.
