Priorities:

BUDGET

Problem: Annual problem of insufficient revenue.

Solution: "We need to take a look at skinnying-down some of our higher wage earners" and seeking a 15 percent voluntary pay decrease from other workers.

JOBS

Problem: Nearly two years of declining sales tax revenues, which funds more than 25 percent of the budget.

Solution: Increase efforts to attract small- and medium-sized businesses, perhaps by creating an "omsbudsman" position to help them work their way through the city's development process.

TRANSPORTATION

Problem: A car-reliant population and nonpunctual city bus system.

Solution: Push for the SMART train, expand bike and pedestrian opportunities and seek grants to help pay for them.
