Priorities:
BUDGET
Problem: A huge budget deficit and the threat of cutting critical services.
Solution: Discuss with employees where they think budget cuts could be made. Increase public fees for use of city facilities.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
Problem: Use of redevelopment money to fund projects such as the Hyatt Hotel.
Solution: Redirect that money to subsidize construction of affordable housing for the city's service-industry work force.
JOBS
Problem: High local unemployment rate, particularly among low-wage earners.
Solution: Adopt a living wage law applicable to the City Hall work force and those contractors and companies who do business with the city.
