Still no ID's on crash victims

Sonoma County coroner’s investigators Tuesday continued trying to identify two males who died Monday in a fiery car crash into a west county house.
Autopsies on the burned victims were conducted Tuesday, said Sgt. Mitch Mana, coroner’s office supervisor. Preliminary information wasn’t available Tuesday afternoon on whether the men died from the crash or the fire.
The CHP suspected the driver may have been drinking as empty beer cans were found in the burned wreckage. But test results weren’t expected to be available for a few weeks.
The two were in a 1993 Acura, which sped down Bloomfield Road, through a stop sign, across a front yard and smashed like a bomb exploding into the garage of a home there.
There was no evidence the driver tried to brake, and the CHP said it appears the car was travelling quite fast at the time of the impact.
In seconds the car burst into flames, catching the garage and attached home on fire. The two in the car were burned beyond recognition.
The sleeping family in the home got out safely.

I just don't get it. They can take a picture of a car running a red light and find the owner AND driver, but they can't figure out who owns or drives a car when it's in their lap?

have you ever seen a vehicle burned to the point that the victims inside are crispy-crittered? no fingerprints to analyze, dental could be questionable, and a physical ID would be impossible . . . and whatever DNA they may pull will take a lot longer to analyze than what is portrayed on TV (remember, this just happened early yesterday morning).
i'm sure the authorities are attempting to track the REGISTERED owner of the vehicle . . . in the meantime, you're just gonna have to wait for those IDs!

I'm no expert on fire or metal or ID. But, is it possible the damage is so severe to the vehicle that the VIN # is "gone" and the plate or plates "melted"? I use the terms in quotes loosely since I do not know correct terminology.

The FBI was able to identify fragments of the rent a truck bombing in the Oklahoma City bombing within days. This vehicle did not blow up with a massive load of explosives. It appears to be an alcohol driven death ride. Should we call the FBI to find the vehicle VIN number, license plate number or find the burned drivers license or other identification? This is not CSI, it is simple police work. How about some answers? Law enforcement found beer cans, no IDs, no missing persons, no clues?

Even after the bodies are identified, it could be some time before that information is made public. They will have to find & inform relatives of the victims before releasing the names. It isn't really going to make much difference who they are except to their families.

well, let see a couple of options here.... if there was no record of these people if they relocated to work here to support their families, there would be no records, if the person that sold the car to them, sold it to them for "cash" and since they may not have drivers licenses, or insurance, hummmm, it may make it very difficult to identify. I'm sure that their room mates have moved on to other jobs "that Americans won't do" so their will be no info there, so basically the homeowners insurance will have to pay for the damage, so in reality we all will have to pay with higher insurance rates.........thanks a lot!
