At least 78 University of Southern California students have been treated for a contagious gastrointestinal virus infection centered around a cluster of dormitories at its downtown campus, school officials said Saturday.
Students who arrived at the campus clinic suffered from vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea, university spokesman James Grant said.
Officials alerted the campus community about the virus early Saturday with a barrage of e-mail and cell phone text messages.
"We don't think it's a food-borne illness," Grant said. "It looks like it's a human-contact virus, a stomach flu."
