A 50-year-old Santa Rosa man was in custody late Tuesday after leading a deputy on a brief chase on Highway 101, crashing his car and hiding under the deck of a nearby home, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department.
Lt. Greg Miller said the deputy pulled over a vehicle driven by Daniel Dekmar just before 8:30 p.m. at Santa Rosa Avenue and Todd Road. Dekmar had been driving erratically without his lights on, Miller said, and sped away from the deputy while throwing unrecovered items out the window.
Dekmar lost control three miles later, spinning into a ditch at the Highway 12 exit, and then ran from the scene, Miller said. Dekmar was found hiding under the deck of an Earl Street home, but resisted arrest and was apprehended after he was bitten by a sheriff's dog, Miller said.
Dekmar was being treated for bite wounds at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and faces felony charges of violating probation, evasion and resisting arrest, Miller said.
