Overturned big rig cleared

Traffic was blocked for much of Wednesday afternoon from Highway 101 to westbound Highway 12 after a big-rig carrying empty wine bottles overturned while rounding the connector ramp, the CHP said.
No one was injured in the 11:25 a.m. accident, but traffic was diverted for almost four hours during the cleanup, Sgt. Robert Mota said.
Hundreds of cases of bottles had to be removed from the truck before it could be lifted back onto its wheels and towed away, Mota said.
Not a single bottle was broken, he said.
Mota said it appeared the truck overturned because the driver was taking the turn too fast. It lay on its side across one lane near the transition, he said.
During the cleanup, northbound Highway 101 drivers trying to go west on Highway 12 were diverted east on Highway 12 to Farmers Lane. From there, drivers could get back on Highway 12 west and squeeze past the accident scene, Mota said.

I got diverted east on Highway 12 because the CHP closed the ramp to westbound Highway 12. This was a stupid and pointless thing to do. All this succeeded in doing was forcing me to turn around in front of the fairgrounds and get back on to the westbound lanes. There was nothing blocking the ramp to the westbound lanes. The same result would have occurred except that I would not have been forced into that stupid U-turn in front of the fairgrounds. Also, there were entirely too many cops there. I guess they had to find something for them to do.
