Laytonville man dies following ATV crash

A Mendocino County man who veered off the road on an all-terrain vehicle and struck a utility pole Monday afternoon died of head injuries suffered in the crash, the CHP said.

The victim’s name was being withheld, pending notification of his family, authorities said.

Authorities said he was a 29-year-old Laytonville resident.

The man was driving on rural Bell Springs Road north of Laytonville around 4:20 p.m. Monday when he accelerated and ran off the edge of the road, striking the pole, the CHP said.

He was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head trauma, authorities said.

He was flown to Mercy Hospital in Redding, where he died of his injuries.
