Taser, dog subdue driver after chase

A Healdsburg man who became combative after leading CHP officers on a Highway 101 car chase was stunned with a Taser and attacked by a police dog, the CHP reported Tuesday.

Perry Humphrey, 22, was arrested after the pursuit, which began when a CHP officer spotted a pickup traveling erratically on Hearn Avenue late Monday night.

The officer attempted to stop the driver, who fled north onto Highway 101. The driver reached speeds of about 90 mph, but also slowed significantly because of construction on the highway, Officer Matt Werle said.

Near the Dry Creek Road exit, the driver hit a spike strip placed by another officer, popped a tire and veered into a ditch near Lytton Springs Road.

When officers got to the truck, the man became combative, Werle said, and he was hit with the Taser.

A Sonoma County Sheriff's Department dog was sent to help subdue the man and bit him, a sheriff's official said.

The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into Sonoma County Jail.
