Did 49ers make the grade?

49ers' Shaun Hill, right, loses his helmet but gets a first down as Arizona Cardinals' Karlos Dansby (58) and Adrian Wilson, back right, move in for the tackle in the second quarter Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, in Glendale, Ariz.

49ers' grades for Monday night:

Quarterback

B-minus

There was so much good, but ultimately there was a lot bad, too. Shaun Hill, a blue-collar quarterback, brought a lot to the 49ers’ huddle on Monday. After a flawless first half, he committed three turnovers in the second half.

Running Backs

C-minus

Frank Gore had 99 yards on 23 carries, but could not keep his feet near the goal line at the end of the game. He also dropped a third-down pass. Michael Robinson was stopped shy of the goal line on the final play of the game.

Wide Receiver

B-plus

It was a coming-out party for Jason Hill, who caught seven passes for 84 yards. Also, Josh Morgan had four catches for 54 yards, including a touchdown. Vernon Davis also had a nice TD grab.

Offensive Line

B-plus

It’s amazing how much better the offensive line looks when they’re blocking for a quarterback who does not hold the ball all day. Hill was not sacked. However, the line could not get the push on the final play of the game.

Defensive Line

B

Roderick Green got some pressure on the quarterback, and Justin Smith was his usual active self. The 49ers did not get any sacks of Kurt Warner, but they did a really nice job in the run game.

Linebacker

C

Patrick Willis showed his speed, but could not keep up with Steve Breaston on a 46-yard pass down the middle. Takeo Spikes had a tackle for a 4-yard loss late in the game to give the 49ers another chance to win it.

Defensive back

C-minus

This is the most difficult assignment that a defensive backfield will ever face, and the 49ers did an all-right job of hanging with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Warner threw for 328 yards in the game.

Special Teams

A

Allen Rossum got the 49ers going with a 104-yard return for a TD on the opening kickoff, getting nice help from Robinson along the way. Andy Lee averaged 53 yards on four punts.

Coaching/overall

B

It was an impressive effort, but the 49ers could not finish the job. The game management at the end of the game was atrocious, as the 49ers let this game get away from them. Why run Robinson on the final play when Gore is in the backfield?
