Crash slows commute in Novato but smooth sailing in Santa Rosa

A multi-car crash closed a single lane of southbound Highway 101 in Novato early Wednesday, adding to the usual commute-hour slowdown in the area, the CHP said.
It was not clear how many vehicles were involved in what started out as a two-car collision, nor whether injuries were involved, authorities said.
Initial reports of the 8:11 a.m. accident suggested involved vehicles were on the shoulder and in the center median, though later word had the fast lane blocked near Novato Boulevard, the CHP said.
Meanwhile, in Sonoma County, the commute through downtown Santa Rosa was quicker than usual as drivers made use of additional lanes, which opened last week.
The commute was slow from Windsor to River Road, but flow more smoothly than before the lanes opened.
