Bike rider may have suffered heart attack

An elderly Ukiah bike rider initially believed to have died in a collision with a car Sunday afternoon may not have been hit, but instead suffered a heart attack, the CHP reported Monday.
The rider’s name and age wasn’t released Monday pending notification of family. But a CHP official said the victim apparently was a Ukiah resident in his 70s.
The man was riding west on rural Talmage road at about 4:15 p.m. Sunday when he began swerving for unknown reasons, said Officer Randy England, public information officer for the Ukiah CHP office.
He may have been having a heart attack and was thrown from his bike, England said.
A driver coming in the opposite direction hit the bike.
“It’s still under investigation if he was hit by the car,” England said.
The crash was just west of Sanford Ranch Road.
