A Laytonville man injured when a firework he was setting off backfired now is facing possession of marijuana charges, Mendocino County sheriff’s officials said.
Christopher Anderson, 33, was drunk and was setting off 3-inch-long fireworks mortars when one got stuck in the launch tube and exploded, injuring a hand, Sheriff’s Lt. Rusty Noe said.
Deputies were called at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to the North Road address after reports of an explosion. They found the wounded Anderson, who was treated for the injury.
Deputies also found about 12 pounds of marijuana in the home, Noe said.
Anderson had a medical recommendation for marijuana, but his 12 pounds exceeded the county’s limit. Deputies seized 10 pounds.
Anderson was arrested on suspicion of possessing explosives and possessing more than one ounce of marijuana. He was given a citation and order to appear in court.
