With a motorcycle escort provided by The Patriot Guard and a solemn group of well-wishers paying tribute on Mendocino Avenue, the body of Marine Pfc. Adam J. Harwood was returned to Santa Rosa on Thursday.
Harwood's body was found in waters off Okinawa after he went missing Saturday in what authorities believe was a drowning accident. The 29-year-old Marine, a graduate of Santa Rosa's Piner High School, had been stationed on the Marine base on Okinawa since mid-August.
The Corps flew Harwood's body to San Francisco International Airport on Thursday morning. He arrived in Santa Rosa at Eggen & Lance Funeral Home under escort by The Patriot Guard, made up of veterans and others who honor each fallen Marine or soldier with an escort as they return home.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
