Authorities Sunday continued to search the Mendocino coast for a man who fell into the churning tide Saturday and was swept away.

The search was called off Sunday night and set to resume this morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

A 52-year-old man fell into the ocean from a Mendocino Headlands cliff Saturday afternoon, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Department.

The man, whose name has not been released, slipped and fell approximately 20 feet into the ocean. Arriving rescue crews reportedly saw the man in the water, waving his arms.

Teams from the Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department, Mendocino County Sheriff's Department and U.S. Coast Guard participated in the search. The Coast Guard sent a cutter and helicopter, but rescuers lost sight of the man.
