Sonoma County sheriff's deputies arrested a 46-year-old Monte Rio man on suspicion of murder in the bludgeoning death of his roommate, the sheriff's office said Saturday.
Brett Arnold Matz is being held without bail at Sonoma County Jail. The identity of the victim is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
Matz was contacted by Monte Rio firefighters Friday afternoon after he told a business owner he'd killed his partner, investigators said.
Firefighters entered his nearby residence and found a dead body inside, according to the Sheriff's Department. Matz was arrested at the scene.
Investigators later determined the victim was struck numerous times with a blunt instrument, resulting in massive head injuries.
