Montgomery High School student Deysi Pineda is out of the hospital, three days after she and her sister were hit by a truck driven by a suspected drunken driver.

Pineda, 15, was released sometime Tuesday afternoon, said a hospital official Wednesday.

She’d been at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital since Saturday morning’s crash.

Cruz Pineda, 13, remained at Children’s Hospital in Oakland with more serious injuries.

A trust account now is open for the two Santa Rosa sisters.

Donations may be made at any Exchange Bank branch to the Deysi and Cruz Pineda trust account, said Jason Lea, principal at Herbert Slater Middle School where Cruz Pineda is an eighth-grader.

The girls were hit by a pickup as they waited Saturday morning for a bus with their dad on an east Santa Rosa corner.

The driver hit a parked car, causing his truck to flip and slide into the corner where the girls stood.

Driver Mike Tweedie was in court Tuesday afternoon and arraigned on felony charges that included hit and run and drunken driving.

Tweedie has a lengthy criminal record marked by drugs, alcohol and three DUI convictions.

Deysi Pineda was treated at Memorial for broken bones, including a broken clavicle.

Cruz Pineda, 13, was at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, where she was being treated for a brain injury, according to her family.

Cruz was reportedly responding well to medical treatment and the family was happy with the progress, said Wendy Albarran-Nymark, an adviser at Herbert Slater.

“I spoke to mom. (Cruz) is doing OK,” Albarran-Nymark said.

“Mom just wanted to say ‘thank you’ for everybody responding and being so generous,” said the adviser. “She’s just humbled that even strangers are looking out for her kids.”

The bank account was opened by Lory Younger, a co-worker of the girls’ father and brother. The two work at Coco’s Restaurant in east Santa Rosa.

Donations raised by efforts at the girls’ schools, Herbert Slater and Montgomery High School, also will be put into the account, Lea said.
