Former Sonoma Mayor Larry Murphy remained hospitalized Tuesday from injuries suffered in a bicycle crash near Napa.

Murphy, 73, was in stable condition at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

He was seriously injured March 4 when he apparently was trying to ride across Highway 121 and didn’t see an oncoming truck, the CHP said Tuesday.

Murphy, the former owner of Murphy’s Irish Pub in Sonoma, was riding just west of Highway 29 in southern Napa at about 10 a.m. when he tried to cross the highway on his bicycle.

He’d made it across one lane but apparently didn’t see a pickup in the other lane, the CHP said.

Murphy was hit by the truck driven by Michael Ross, 54, of Petaluma. The crash remained under investigation but, preliminarily, the driver didn’t appear to be at fault, the CHP said.

Murphy first was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa with moderate to major injuries. He later was transferred to Memorial.

He was on the Sonoma City Council from 1984 to 1992 and served twice as mayor during that time.
