Klockenga has served as interim CEO for the last six months. He took the reins of St. Joseph’s Sonoma County operations after former CEO George Perez left last September.

“He is a strategic thinker who brings a great deal of operational experience, a collaborative style and keen listening skills to his new role,” Joe Randolph, chief operating officer of the Orange-based St. Joseph Health System, said in a statement.

St. Joseph Health is the county’s largest private employer, with 2,625 workers. It operates the 279-bed Memorial Hospital and the 80-bed Petaluma Valley Hospital.

Before coming to Santa Rosa, Klockenga worked as chief operating officer of Catholic Healthcare West’s two Mercy hospitals in Bakersfield.

Prior to that, Klockenga served as assistant vice president of operations at Memorial Hermann Healthcare Hospital in Houston and as vice president of operations at Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
