A speeding motorcyclist who crashed and then fled the accident scene provoked a manhunt and the lockdown of a school west of Santa Rosa on Wednesday afternoon.
A CHP officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist at about 4 p.m, but the man accelerated to more than 90 mph, according to officials. The man tried to brake near Hall and Willowside roads to avoid a collision, but crashed his Suzuki motorcycle.
The suspect reportedly fled through nearby Willowside Middle School with officers in pursuit. He was caught hiding in a nearby residence about two hours later, according to the CHP.
He was identified as Robert Keith Casey, 40 of Santa Rosa.
While police were searching for him with the aid of aircraft and a canine unit, school officials locked down the middle school and notified parents of the situation.
A girls’ eighth-grade volleyball team was practicing in the gym and as a result were confined to the gym until they could be released to their parents.
