The company also announced that Ron Nersesian, currently vice president and general manager of the Wireless Business Unit, will be promoted to senior vice president and general manager of the global Electronic Measurement Group.
The cuts will be global and Agilent spokesman Jeff Weber said it won't be clear until before the end of April how the local operation will be affected. The 1,350-employee Santa Rosa operation, which includes the Wireless Business Unit, is part of the larger 11,000-employee Electronic Measurement Group that Mr. Nersesian will oversee.
The cuts and other restructuring measures will cost Agilent $160 million and are expected to save $300 million a year.
Agilent also announced that revenue in the semiconductor and board test segment is projected to drop 50 percent from 2008 levels.
"The Electronic Measurement segment has also experienced a downturn, but not as dramatic," said Mr. Weber.
Mr. Nersesian was traveling and not available for comment on his promotion.
