The Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 awards focus on business. But that does not mean there aren’t talented young leaders tackling important community efforts.

Nominee Tracy Weitzenberg of Santa Rosa falls into that category.

When not working as a freelance writer for Kaiser Permanente in Santa Rosa, Ms. Weitzenberg has been the chairwoman of the annual Sweetheart Ball fundraising event for The Volunteer Center of Sonoma County for five years and a board member since 2003. The black-tie, themed event ranks among the county’s must-attend events, most recently raising funds for the new 211 nonprofit hotline.

“Volunteering is my passion, and those who give of their time, energies and talent at this center represent the heart and soul of the community. This is what I do on my personal time when not with my family,” Ms. Weitzenberg said.

For the past four years, Ms. Weitzen-berg has also been the president and volunteer coordinator for the Hidden Valley Elementary School Parent Faculty Organization.

In addition, she is a Leadership Santa Rosa and a Press Democrat Leadership Forum graduate, a member of the Sonoma County Medical Alliance and also serves on a Red Cross committee.
