A three-car crash at Marlow and Guerneville roads sent six people, including a child, to local hospitals Tuesday evening.
Some of the victims sustained “life-threatening injuries,” Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.
Accident investigators were still at the scene at 9:30 p.m., four hours after the crash.
The intersection was closed in several directions, and police were advising motorists to avoid the area.
No other details were available, Banayat said.
Witnesses said a white Ford Explorer was speeding eastbound on Guerneville Road when it collided with a small Toyota carrying a child and his parents.
“I saw the Toyota lift from the back, four or five feet into the air, then slide across the intersection into the pole,” said Richard Vallee, a security guard waiting at the intersection’s westbound light.
“I ran to the vehicle,” Vallee said. “There was blood everywhere.”
The driver of the Toyota told Vallee “my son’s in there.” Vallee spotted the unconscious child in the back seat, pulled him from the car and carried him to a nearby lawn at the corner of Guerneville and Marlow roads.
“His nose was crooked, his head was down and his eyes were open,” Vallee said.
The crash spread shattered glass and car parts throughout the intersection, which was closed while police investigated the collision.
The Toyota was forced through the intersection, but the Explorer and a small compact car behind it remained in the intersection, near the limit line of the eastbound light.
Vallee said the drivers of those cars were transported to local hospitals. The child and his parents were also taken to the hospital.
