Raley’s Inc., which has four supermarkets in Sonoma County, is offering buyouts to 100 union and non-union store clerks, the company said Friday.

The West Sacramento-based grocery chain is responding to employees who were interested in taking buyouts, said spokeswoman Amy Davis. “We found it mutually beneficial,” she said.

A union official told the Sacramento Bee that the move is an effort to avoid or minimize layoffs.

About 3,000 of Raley’s 15,000 workers are eligible for the buyouts, but only the first 100 applicants will be accepted, Davis said.

Raley’s has about 400 employees at supermarkets in Santa Rosa, Windsor, Rohnert Park and Petaluma.

Raley’s owns and operates 133 stores in California and Nevada under the Raley’s, Bel Air, Nob Hill and Food Source banners.
