Christopher Wenmoth, a convicted bank robber from Santa Rosa, was sentenced to another six months in prison Thursday in a negotiated plea that settles 30 new charges of check forgery.

Wenmoth, 40, has been a frequent correspondent with a Press Democrat reporter since his arrest on bank robbery charges last year. He confessed much of his criminal activity in letters and phone calls to The Press Democrat.

Wenmoth was convicted of a July 23 holdup of the Montgomery Village branch of US Bank. He pleaded no contest, saying he was a gambling addict and was determined to fix his life, and was set to be released from jail this month.

But while he was in jail, he was charged with another 30 criminal counts alleging that he created and cashed bogus checks that drew $22,678 from his former employer, Center Point Inc., a drug and alcohol treatment program in San Rafael.

He admitted those charges as well and Thursday, Judge Elliot Daum sentenced Wenmoth to six months in prison on five of those charges. Prosecutors dropped the remaining 25 counts as part of the plea.

Wenmoth was also ordered to repay $22,700 to WestAmerica Bank.
