Attorney General Jerry Brown reported on Facebook that he is looking into the case of a sailboat enthusiast accused of manslaughter in a fatal 2006 boating accident on Clear Lake.
Brown's office declined to comment Wednesday other than to say the statements were the governor's.
Brown stated he is talking to the Lake County district attorney and noted there are conflicting claims in the case. District Attorney Jon Hopkins declined to comment.
Supporters of the accused, Carmichael resident Bismark Dinius, have urged Brown to get involved. They say he should not be held responsible for the collision that killed a Willows woman aboard the sailboat he helmed. They blame Lake County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Russell Perdock, who was driving a speedboat that slammed into the sailboat, killing Lynn Thornton and injuring seven others.
Authorities have said Dinius had a blood-alcohol level of 0.12 percent and did not ensure the sailboat lights were on that dark night.
