Bell Road near Windsor’s Town Green will soon be going by a new name — Market Street.

The Windsor Town Council voted 4-0 this week to change the name at the request of the Windsor Farmers Market, which wants to better publicize its activity on the Town Green.

Council member Debora Fudge endorsed the change, saying the market stimulates economic activity and helps draw people to the Town Green.

Only a couple of businesses owners are affected along the few blocks of Bell Road that will be re-named, between Windsor River Road and Old Redwood Highway.

Town officials agreed to wait until early next year to put up the new “Market Street” signs at the request of the owner of the Windsor Vineyards building, who was in favor of the change.

Initially the owner of Labelle Nails and Spa at 9403 Bell Road was against the proposal. But she agreed to it after the Farmers Market said it would pay for her cost of reordering business cards and other materials to reflect the address change.
