Then the Humane Society phoned him to say a man had surrendered a handsome orange tabby that he could no longer keep. The staff ran a scan and found a microchip identifying the cat as Squires’.
There was a sweet reunion at the Humane Society on Sunday and that night Tangerine (Squires’ daughter named him) slept alongside Squires as if nothing had happened. The cat seems happy and Squires is happy, but he does wish the guy who had his pet since December of 2004 had checked for a microchip first thing, and given him back.
This will pass — Tangerine’s been home only two days — but the dog Squires got when it seemed the cat was a goner is acting a bit put out.
