A Santa Rosa teen who challenged several Piner High School staff members to fight and charged a policeman who tried to intervene was ultimately arrested with the use of a Taser stun gun after a brief foot chase Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The 17-year-old suspect, who is not a Piner High student, had a knife in his front pocket, Santa Rosa Police said.

The incident unfolded beginning around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday when the suspect was seen yelling at a female student on campus who was crying and upset, police said.

When staff members tried to intercede, the suspect said, “You want me to go off right now, I’m going to take you down!” police said.

At one point he tried to punch an assistant principal and threatened him to a fight, police said.

He also pushed another staff member several times in the chest and continued threatening the staff, police said.

When Officer Alan Rosenthal, a school resource officer, arrived, the suspect yelled at him, then took off running. Rosenthal pursued him and repeatedly called for him to stop, police said.

He ultimately used a Taser to subdue and handcuff him, finding the knife in his pocket afterward, police said.

The teen was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Juvenile Hall for suspected assault on school staff, resisting arrest, and possession of a knife on campus, police said.

His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
